Film....

Watched Nick Loves re-make of The Firm, Don't know what to make of Nick Love myself, I found Football Factory to be ok at best, The Business was watchable a film to pass the time and well Outlaw, how shite was that?
The Firm is a remake of the original made-for-television film from the 1980's which started Gary Oldman as Bexy and the "new" Bex played the part very well I found, you could see that he was a right nutter.
It included the scene from the original here hes in his mums and bashing the club on his bed shouting through grit-teeth ( YETI YETI).
I found it a good watch although to much sportswear, more like a fucking advert at times.

Everton Preview

I myself will not be at the home match since I will be down in London for the day...but still thought I would right up a preview etc.

Wigan take on an in-form Everton at the DW stadium this Saturday and our manager Roberto Martinez will be looking to bounce back from the deafeat at Blackburn, At goodinson park back in August we lost 2-1 one of which was a last minute penalty by former latics player and legend in my eyes, Leighton Baines.
We have games in hand but need to start picking points up or it looks like we could be slipping down and into trouble....

Wigan are without Mario Melchiot again due to a neck injury sustained at Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday, Chris Kirkland is also out due to a collarbone injury.

HEAD TO HEAD

Latics Wins [league] : 2 draws: 2 Everton: 5
FA cup: Latics: 0 Draws: 0 Everton: 1
Total: Latics: 2 Draws: 2 Everton: 6

As you can see everton have won more games than us but I am still hopeful for at least a point against an in-form Everton.

Some Everton/Liverpool things.

Everton Mints

The Beatles

Liver-Building

Scousers version of Leigh's Lobby....

FA cup replay at the DW stadium...

Notts County will travel up to the DW stadium on Tuesday for the FA cup fourth round reply.
I am hoping that since we will be at home we can give them a good stuffing and move on in the cup but there is part of me that thinks hmm....they could get something from the game and if i am honest i would not be surprised if they do get something knowing our recent form and the fucking dire performance against Blackburn on Wednesday night.....

Will post up a preview the night before the match and then what happened the day after.....

Named after MR.Wigan [sic] himself Dave Whelan.

Film....

Watched " Altered states" which was on my list to watch one of the most trippiest films I have ever watched quite scary in parts to. I would recommend it.

4.5/5

here is some screens of it.

here is a gif of the goat crusifix scene.

What a crock of shite...

Went up to Blackburn to watch Latics last night and what a crock of shite, the goalie made a massive mistake for rovers first goal and then after we scored had half a hour of decent play and passes, but after that we just seemed to be like statues and not even sting a pass together. I'm also shocked at why Martinez did not make changes as soon as I thought he would, change the squad get some fresh players in. I'm still backing him and was pissed off when some of our "fans" bloody booed us off the pitch at half time and at full. It would take me a lot to boo my team. When i go to Latics i don't know what to expect, Win,Lose,Draw its what makes it fun.

WAFC KEEP THE FAITH

note: I also reckon Martinez needs to change the way he plays, because when he came to Latics he had a strong back 4 who was a decent defence, There is major holes in that defence that needs to be sorted out.

i will still be backing him even if we do go down.

Springfield Park

Springfield Park was the stadium for Wigan athletic, the ground saw football there for 102years in various forms with football teams calling it home included:

Wigan County, Wigan United, Wigan Town, and Wigan Borough

The ground was also used for horse trotting, cycling and athletics.

Wigan Athletic called it there home when they formed in 1932 and many a young fan did a lot of growing up on the terraces of Springfield park ( Including my old man.)

Here is some pictures of that old stadium where many a working class lad visited on a sat afternoon to watch the football.

Rest in peace.

And I guess you could say i did my growing up in a more sterile atmosphere,

But im still glad that I was braught up to follow my local team.

Should be picking up:

Not had a clothes post for a while so thought I would post up what i plan on buying when down in that London.

and maybe a Lacoste polo or something from Covant Garden.

Blackburn preview

Heading up the road to Blackburn for the latics game tonight should be having a few drinks and watch a decent game of flood light football which for me is just what i love.

Hopefully latics will come away with 3 points, which will give us some breathing space between the drop zone and let us not worry that bit to much.
Chris Kirkland is on the sidelines for the latics due to a training injury.
we have the option of to put in the experienced Mike Pollitt or to put in Vladimir Stojkovic.
The other injury concern is Mario Melchiot and it will be decided later on tonight if he will be in the team or not.

Head to head:

Rovers wins: 5 draws: 2 latics wins: 2

FA cup: rovers: 2 draws:0 latics: 0

Total: rovers: 9 draws: 2 latics: 2

The other games that are on tonight are:

Carling Cup semi final:

Manchester United vs Mancester City

Premier League:

Aston Villa vs Arsenal

Chelsea vs Birmingham

Everton vs Sunderland

Theres just something about floodlight football that i love.

Films I plan to watch..

After watching the Frankinstien meets the werewolf, over the next few weeks I plan on watching some of the early classic horror films these are:

a cult si-fi film thats "so bad its good!"

heres a still from the film:
the space monster

the film that inspired " An American Werewolf in London"

The orginal

not from the 40's/50's but still a film i am intrested in.

A film I have not seen for a good few years...

Film..

I'm into my horrors. more to the point classic horror, I'm into the old 40s/50's black and white horror and have watched quite a few ofthem, and ofcourse the genre defining classics that is and some of the more obscure ones, I guess I'm into black and white films all together since I'm quite into Film Noir .

I guess one of the things that i love about that era of film is the film posters, theres just something that I like about them.

The other night i watched Frankenstein Meets The Wolf man which was part of a phase during films where characters met up during the film and usually fight and had conflicts etc...
I found that the film was fantastic too watch and including the two actors of the original films, although I imagined that the film would end in an epic battle between the two or all the way through etc, but they only actually meet ( as in the wolf man, not his human form) at the end.

Still a fantastic film and could watch it again, most properly.

So the game...

I reckon latics should get 3 points with Melchiot coming back from a broken nose which he got from Wolves away....most of the first team are in and hopefully i shall get to see our new keeper in action.
and I should see some of our new players in action since last game I went to was Sunderland at home and I felt like utter utter death.

Napoleon's Retreat From Wigan

A poem by Mike Harding.

Twas on the plains of Irlam,
The year 1815
Napoleon were sat in his long johns,
Suppin' Brasso with Josephine.

He'd chewed his nails to the very quick,
So he chewed 'em down to t' slow
He was chewin' very hard when up the back yard
Come a corporal his face all aglow.

Eh bean mon capitain," he cried,
"Sackrit bloo murd alors parlez voox"
And boney spat out a big lump of nail and said
"Bugger me what's to do?"

"It's t'lads cried corporal pickin' his nose,
"We played Wigan at billiards last night
And Wigan lads cheated and give us wobbly cues
And sewed all t pockets up tight"

"Ecky le pecky," cried Boney,
"I'll show 'em which team's the best"
And he had a quick chew of his fingernails
And stuck his hand up his vest.

"Dish out some spud guns and catapults," he cried,
"And give lads pea shooters all round
We'll burn down the pie and peas shops,
And raze chippies down to t' ground."

"Us'll run through Wigan like a dose of salts,
We'll make 'em tremble and quake
We'll loot and we'll pillage and we'll pinch things as well,
And we'll smash all the Eccles cake!"

Well he borrowed the Irlam muck cart,
And some spuds to roast on t' way
And with all of his lads in t' wagon,
'e pointed 'is 'orse Wigan way.

But weather turned rotten to spite him,
It snowed, rained and hailed and all t' rest
And Boney started sulkin' and chewin' his nails,
And stickin' his hand up his vest.

Soon the horse wouldn't go no further,
It were weary and smelly and old
And it asked for a blanket and Time and a Half,
And boots for workin' in t' cold.

Well they traipsed through the snow for a fortneet,
Dischuffed to the knickers they were
They'd icicles hangin' from their nom de plumes,
And tricycles hung from their hair.

So they traipsed through t' slush round slag heaps,
And up by t' canal and by t' pier
Till they come to a door-mat in t' snow sayin' "BOG OFF"
And Boney said "Ey up lads we're there!!"

But the gates of Wigan were bolted tight,
Said Boney, "Ooo what a pest"
And he had another chew of his fingernails,
And stuck his hand up his vest.

There he stood at the gates of Wigan,
Frozen tears ran in lumps down his chin
And he kicked on t' front door with his wellies in temper,
And shouted "Come on then lerrus in!!! "

But there on the front door of Wigan,
A notice he read wi' a groan
"WE HEARD AS 'OW YOU WERE COMIN',
SO WE FLITTED, THERE'S NO ONE AT 'OME."

Boney he were right blazin',
But Wigan were blazin' also
'Cos Lord Mayor 'ad left chip pan on t' gas ring,
And Wigan were all aglow.

Well the flames grew higher and higher,
And Boney he got right depressed
So he had another chew of his fingernails,
And stuck his hand up his vest.

Well Wigan soon burnt down to ashes,
An' it got cowld so they 'ad to retreat
They'd et their boots and socks on t' way,
So they 'ad to walk 'ome in bare feet.

Retreatin' were t' worst part o' t' business,
Cos t' lads were startin' to see red
And they hissed and booed at Boney up front,
An' chucked snowballs at t' back of his head.

Boney were fed up wi' all this,
So that night he worked out a plan
He pawned all t' lads' muskets as they lay there in kip,
An' he come 'ome on t' No. 11 tram.

It were dark when Boney got back to their street,
And stars were twinklin' above
And Boney's passions rose and burst all his buttons,
As he thowt of Josephine his love!!

He opened the door, stamped the snow off his boots,
Stuck his rifle in t' plant pot in th' hall
"I'm 'ome sweety pie light of my life,"
And Josie just shouted rude things.

"Don't think you can go out conquering" she said,
Enjoying yerself wi' t' lads
Yer t' wust bloody stop-out i' Irlam!"
Boney said, "There's no answer to that."

She said, "You've not finished papperin' t' lobby yet,
This 'ouse is a right bloody mess
And you just stand there chewin' your nails,
And stickin' your hand up your vest."

Well she ran downstairs and smashed 'im in t' gob,
An' when he tried to get into bed
She got right nasty and picked up the po,
And smashed it over his head.

So you see what they say in th' hysterical books
Isn't always right
It were Boney that got deaf and dumb breakfast
And Josephine who said 'Not tonight'

'Cos she made him sleep downstairs on t' hearth rug
Tossin' and turnin' without rest
Kickin' the cat and chewin' his nails
And stickin' his hand up his vest!!!

Battle of Wigan lane

History lesson part 3 as it where...

The Battle of Wigan lane ( 1651) was one of the last battles in the English civil war, during the battle the royalists would be deaf ted and over the battle would lose nearly half there officers and men.

here is a written account just after the battle had finished, a bit long winded maybe but I found it a interesting read.

"Mr Speaker,
My Lord Generall being pleased to command me to stay here to assist the well-affected against the Lord Derby, who was then at Warrington in this County, with some considerable force both from the Isle of Man, and which he had from the Scots army, wherewith he did not only much encourage the Enemies, but also discourage all the well-affected in these Counties of Lancashire and Cheshire, and whereof he thought himself wholly Master (as indeed he was), and none in those Counties were able, or durst appear against him; and began to be ate Drums, and raise men in all places where he came, and would have been very strong in a short time, not only through the access of many Malignants, Papists, and disaffected Persons, but that assistance the Ministers and those who are called Presbyterians afforded, and would more abundantly have appeared, for they are the men who are grown here more bitter and envious against you than others of the old Cavaliers stamp; the power of the Almighty was very much seene in the total overthrow (I hope) of that wicked designe which was laid and hatched not only here, but through the whole North of England, which was getting into the like posture, as you may further understand by those papers I have here sent you; but that God who hath all along appeared with us and for us, hath shewed himself very good, and powerful in the discipating of his Enemy, who was about fourteen to fifteen hundred strong; I had only three companies of Foot, about fifty or sixty Dragoons, and about thirty Horse from Liverpoole, with my own wearied and somewhat scattered Regiment through our tedious March from Scotland, and hard duty we had here.
Yesterday morning, about eleven or twelve a clock in the night, the Enemy marched from Preston, we lying within two or three miles of them, where we expected those supplyes of Forces which came not, some of our intelligence informing us the Enemy were running away towards their army with what they had gotton; we pursued them hither with some confidence, that that intelligence was true, and the rather we believed it because of some discouragement we put upon them the day before; but upon our approach hither we found it otherwise, for they were bending their course towards Manchester, where they had not only very great hopes of surprising my Lord Generall's Regiment of Foot, but also assurance of the assistance of five hundred men in and about the Towne, but, upon the sight of our near approach, they unexpectedly put themselves in a posture of fighting with us, which then we endeavoured to decline, in regard to the very great advantage they had by their many Foote and Hedges, and the danger we apprehended my Lord Generall's Regiment of Foot at Manchester to be in, we were drawing off, thinking to have marched in the left flanke of them thither, to have gained a conjunction with our Friends, who too, had order to march that day to me to Preston; we had thought to have met them on the way, having sent severall messengers to let them know both the Enemies and our motion, but the enemy perceiving us to draw off, quickly advanced upon us with their Horse and Foot, which we perceiving, and that we could not goe off safely enough, we fell to dispute with them, which lasted almost one houre; our horse being not able to doe any service but in Lanes, and they overpowering us so much in Foot, made the businesse very difficult that we hardly knew whose the day would be for so long; but therein was the Salvation of God the more seen, and the greater opportunity we had to destroy them. I desire that he may have the praise and glory of that happy successe he was pleased to give unto his poor creatures. Having given you this narrative in general, which I thought it my duty to doe, this inclosed list will inform you further of the particulars. I desire the Lord would teach us to walke in some way answerable to those manifold and gracious Dispensations he daily gives us experience of, and manifests his love to us, in that, His name may be magnified in all we do in our severall places and stations; this great mercie to us here I hope is the earnest of his further tendernesse to the great concernment of all good people in this Nation, which is the hearty desire of Yours faithful and most humble Servant to my power,

ROB. LILBURNE.
This Bearer was all the while in Engagement, and is able to give you further Relation.
I have not lost an Officer in this Engagement, but one Corporal, and not above ten soldiers slaine, but very many wounded.
