Look over label?

I agree with this completely, Recently I went into Manchester with the other half and had a look around and of course since this is the Mrs..Primark was on the list of shops to visit that day.
I had a nosy around the men's section and found a nice plain black cardigan which suited the Fred Perry l/s check shirt that I had on so I thought I would buy it, Looks smart functional and can go under a jacket to keep me warm, OK i guess it could be classed as fun boy and the quality is not that good compared to say a John Smedley,Lyle & Scott or a Fred Perry one but for 8 quid it will do the job.
Also had a look in TK maxx while I was in and have to say they had some nice shirting's which I was going to pick up but I'm off to London next week so should pick up a few Nice pieces when I'm down there.......

Last sup....

Was in the local pub last night and had a nice pint of this which is one of my favorite tipples..

History lesson part two.

Wigan Pier.

Once the butt of music hall jokes in the 20th century was orginaly a a coal loading staithe where wagons from a nearby pit would unload the coal onto canal boats.
The orginal pier which was made out of wood is thought to have been demolished in around 1929.
It came to the attention of most people with George Orwells " Road To Wigan Pier" which was a book about working class life in the north and has refrences to wigan of course within the book with areas such as Scholes,Whelley and wallgate getting references within the book.
The link between Wigan and Orwell has given the area some form of torisum but some people think it highlights the bad points of the town despite it is the one thing that it is famous for ( and it pains me to say it..Rugby League...)

"I remember a winter afternoon in the dreadful environs of Wigan. All round was the lunar landscape of slag-heaps, and to the north, through the passes, as it were, between the mountains of slag, you could see the factory chimneys sending out their plumes of smoke. The canal path was a mixture of cinders and frozen mud, criss-crossed by the imprints of innumerable clogs, and all round, as far as the slag-heaps in the distance, stretched the ‘flashes’ — pools of stagnant water that had seeped into the hollows caused by the subsidence of ancient pits. It was horribly cold. The ‘flashes’ were covered with ice the colour of raw umber, the bargemen were muffled to the eyes in sacks, the lock gates wore beards of ice. It seemed a world from which vegetation had been banished; nothing existed except smoke, shale, ice, mud, ashes, and foul water."

The slag heaps have gone, the factory's have become derelict or become part of modern housing schemes but the Orwell link is still here in the town.

The site which is Wigan Pier is today a tourist attraction along with which is know modern flats trenchfield mill. The pier has a Victorian school with teachers in period dress and also what life down the pits was like.

The pier in a sorry state. Note the wood is still there and Trenchfield mill in the background is still there but is modern flats.

The pier as it looks today, note that the Orwell pub ( a reffrence to George Orwell) has been closed down ( R.I.P )

Wigan Casino....

"Sew your badge on, Get the talc out and get spinning"

The infamous northern soul club " Wigan Casino" opened in 1973 and would continue to seduce amphetamine tablet all nighter dancers till 1981 in which would become as ledegnary as Twisted Wheel and the northern soul clubs at the time.
Young people would flock to Wigan to listen to Northern Soul and do all nighters( they also did young person nights at the time which was popular with the local kids.)
The drug culture of taking speed would be ultimately be the downfall of the club, It got to a point where people where getting mugged etc.
Presure from the police and the local athoritys and also failing attendces made the club close in 1981.
The building which was the casino was burnt down a year after it closed, On the former site of the casino is the Grand Arcade which was built in 2009.

The casino in full technicolour glory...

Old advertisment for the casino..

New things for 2010?

So what labels are going to take over on the terraces in 2010?

In my opinion here is a few brands who i will think will release decent collections over the summer and the current season.

Albam - Will stick to what they do best simple and effective clothing and decent clothes jeans and simple workwear shoes.

Garbstore - We have already seen some decent stuff this year from Garbstore this year with the mountain parka and they continue to produce decent shirtings...

Nigeal Caborun - Stuff of dreams this fashion designer and stuff that most people can not afford ( around a grand for a jacket..) but i still expect to see some decent stuff this season off them.

What will be big this year?

I think shoes such as Clarks,Redwing,Sperry will take over from shite adidas reissues ( dispite a few coming through which seem to see that adidas are going to release some decent stuff....Red Muchens anyone?) and they seem to have done a decent job this year on the Trimm Trabs.
