He even took us out to the beer garden and played a few songs for us, Sound person who I shall be catching at his next gig......

Boat/Deck Shoe

The Boat Shoe ( Also known as Deck Shoes) are made up of canvas or leather with rubber soles designed for use on a boat.
The boat shoe obviously has its origins in the nautical industry, The boat shoe as we know it was invented in 1935 by Paul Sperry ( Owner of Sperry)

The "invention" came to fruit when he noticed his dogs ability to run over ice and snow,Using a nice he cut slipping into into his shoes soles, In doing so inspired a shoe for boating.

The Polo shirt.

The humble polo shirt, A staple in any persons wardrobe and a wide variaity of brands offer them...From Lacoste to Hugo Boss to Burberry to Gant...

The creater eof the polo shirt is Rene Lacoste ( The famous Tennis player and founder of the brand Lacoste) when he found that the Tennis attire at the time was " cumbersome" and uncofterble, He designed a white short sleved top with loosly knight Pique cotton with a unstarched flat protruding collar with a buttoned placket, and a longer shirt taikl at the back in back then front which was known at the time as a tennis tail.

He first wore this design at the 1921US Open championship, At the start of 1927 he introduced a Crocodile emblam since the american press started calling him "The Alligator".

Here is the humble beginings of the polo shirt and infact the brand Lacoste at the time and while most of Lacoste's items are called " Tennis shirts" the actual term for polo shirt came from Ralph Lauren, and in doing so the public started calling Lacostes tennis shirts polo shirts....

Looks great in Summer on its own and under a crewkneck or v-neck with conventionaly layerd clothing in the winter/spring.

Rene Lacoste and Ralph Lauren who designed which would become a fashion and wardrobe staple.

Bit of advertising.....

Bit of an American twist here....with a bit of Gortex and out-doors for good measure...

Last thing purchased....

As said down there somewhere about Umbro Kim Jones, Picked up a 100% cotton shirt very comfy and suitable if any branding at all.

A new direction?

Since I am earning I can now afford clothes that I have always admired from afar, I have also started looking at things that you might not see and things I would not have considered - Boat Shoes,Chinos etc...A new direction for me in clothing maybe more bespoke shirts, Diffrent fabrics and mixing and matching casual brands with unknown brands from abroad, I am also looking for more decent quality denim instead of maybe 30 pounds from topman which look smart but do not offer that quality and asthetics that I am know looking for - Selvedge denim, Raw Denim,Organic I am spoilt for choice and I dont mind spending a ton or over for a pair of jeans - Since I can afford it and they will last years with looking after.

Expect a change in the clothing direction that I am going in,Diffrent,Moving on and ofcourse standing out from the crowd, I am already getting called an old man I can hear with a pair of boat shoes chinos with a slight turn up and a shirt.Simple yet cool and asthetically pleasing.

Bit of classic advertising...

Here is a classic/retro advert for boat shoes/Moccasin's.
Very cool.

And so it is....

That Blackpool FC have made the premier league, Well done shall look forward to the Manchester United " fans" complaining about the golf-esque away end that they have!

This should give Blackpool a lot more income ( not just the football) with people coming up to the town spending money who knows, Maybe its a blessing for both?

Last time I went up it was 4-0 Blackpool or something I got fucked by the police and it rained, A lot.

Hopefully will be towards the back end of the season and it will be hot, Potential weekend has been penned in for that fixture when it gets released....

Hats off to Blackpool FC

And its off to Lobby country....

Heard of a mate that Danny Mahon is playing in Leigh so thought why not go, Just given the lad a listen and I have to say its very good music - Diffrent the lyrics make me laugh and the acoustic guitar cuts through.

Here is the link to his MySpace:

http://www.myspace.com/dannymahon

His music is diffrent from what I have heard and shall take my camera along....Review will be up a few days after the gig.

Umbro by Kim Jones

Whilst looking round Manchester when I went at the weekend, I thought I would pop into TK Maxx, While looking round what is a massive charity shop effectively I stumbled across a Umbro By Kim Jones 100% Cotton shirt, Its fantastic and ticks the box's aesthetically and material wise, Its comfy, Branding very minimal if nothing at all and perfect for summer evenings, At the moment I don't have any pictures but I shall put some up later on in the day.

When you say umbro you think Football boots, Tracksuit bottoms. Not shirts and decent quality, This is where it ticks the box's, It makes a brand which I would not look at personally into something that I will look at.
The Shirt itself has some nice designs - The fabric is fantastic and comfy and breathable, The shirt itself is not like a conventional shirt - Buttons all the way down its like a jersey, there is only three buttons. Its a smart and conventional shirt.

Here is some information about the brand.

"Kim Jones is a British menswear designer, who since graduating
from Central St Martins MA menswear has developed a cult following for his
refined, casual clothing.
Jones has presented 7 collections for his main
line, presentations varied from films with Toyin, to a book with American art
photographer Luke Smalley, he presented his first catwalk collection in
September 2003 at London fashion week. He has made his Paris debut in July 2004,
at the Paris men’s fashion week.
Alongside his own collection Jones designs
and works for a variety of companies, one includes designing a range for sports
brand Umbro, entitled Umbro by Kim Jones"

The Seagull Love Review

The Hovian over on www.thehovian.com sent me up a Brighton & Hove FC ( The only one at current down on the south coast) and I have to say it is a very good read and is a fantastic insite into a club 100's of miles from me and what goes on and how surporters feel about there club.
I find that the fanzine is quirky, The hand drawn pictures and comic strips which are about the current clubs position/Manager, The articles in it are top notch and I have to say are very well written, It even gives ours a run for the money.
I feel that the fanzine itself has a "innocent" look about it, As its ment to be a fanzine which can be read at half time/on the bog which gives you a laugh and you can read about fellow articles from your fans at your club.

The issue that I got and included articles about them pesky casuals and how there has been a transition between scrapping and to know standing out from the crowd etc....Very good and its also written by the hovian and I feel is what the sub culture is about today - Standing out from the crowd and just doing your own thing, Lead dont follow.

Next on my list......

Going to get this to be purchased next week hopefully.....A Tuk Tuk Chambray indigo shirt.
Here is some infomation taken from there fantastic website http://www.wearetuktuk.com/

Long sleeved indigo coloured chambray shirt.
Slim fit.
2" Italian collar.
Rounded pocket on left breast.
Contrasting white stripe denim locker loop on inside of collar.
Made from 100% soft cotton.

You can also personalise the shirt yourself, Which gives it that personalised tailored feel to a shirt.
One thing that stands out for me on this shirt is the contrasting white sitching itself and the white collar hoop on the inside of the shirt, Its the little details which sets this shirt apart from the others in my opinion.

Theater of Silence

The Theater of Silence by Mattew Bazell is a book about the demise off football, all seater stadiums and the amount of corporate seating and prawn sandwich's that is in today's football, Although some of his in-book jokes are bad, I reckon this book if taken seriously is quite good it takes note of a few things that is wrong with the current game, And I good point is Banning Orders and how they are generally being thrown about and are effecting normal-matching going fans.

He also goes into detail about how he has fallen out of love with his club - Arsenal FC and how it is not the club that he once loved and how it has changed and how he has found football that he loves again - at Millwall FC.

This book I found could have made a few more points in it more serious and the writing could have been touched up a bit,But overall a good read.

3 and a half bar scarfs out of 5

Thanks to my mate over at www.thehovian.com for sending me this book up and the latest fanzine from Brighton and Hove Albion FC.

Super-Size me

Super Size Me is a documentary-film which goes into studying what will happen to your body after just eating McDonald for 30 days and the results are quite shocking, His sex drive goes dead he feels depressed and of-course he gains weight.
He follows a few rules throughout the experiment:

  • Must only eat McDonald
  • Must have everything on the menu at least once
  • Only super-size if they ask and he has to except

Throughout the documentary he keeps the viewer entertained and scary at the same time, One thing that hit me was that the children of America knew the cartoon's from the adverts of fast food companies yet did not know a picture of Jesus Christ!
He went through the whole menu in just 9 days and goes into great lengths before and after and looks at the effects of his body.
He also did his homework before filming and throughout the film by using witty artwork and subtitles goes into great lengths talking about Americas nutritional diets and obesity levels and even which city/state was the fattest at the time of the documentary it was Houston - Texas.

A good watch and something which is different from the norm.

Always look on the bright side of life,

8-0 to Chelsea FC what do you expect? Well the fact that they are cheating twits is one, Drogba doing his " holding head crying then when he gets a decision i will go and run" trick.
Two penalties and a sending off - All to Chelsea, I actually stopped caring and lost count of how many goals went it, Had a good sing song and I loved how the Chelsea muppets could not understand why we where still singing even though we where losing, We follow our team because we are proud to do so we may be not successful but we did not buy the title.

Had a good day in t'smoke as well, Cenataph,Pubs,Houses of Parliment and we couldnt find a pub to drink in Chelsea itself because well we are a "risk" because my 71 year old grandad has a Wigan Athletic jacket on.Bollocks.

Here are some pictures from the day:

So thats it then....

Last home game of the season over, 2-2 draw with Hull City which has sent them down to the championship and with talks of the club in crippling debt, Its not looking good for the Tigers.

Wigan started off well with a goal from Victor Moses in the 30th minute and then just before half time Hull equalised ( I missed it since I was waiting for food, then to find out that they has sold out of all hot-food!)
So I presume the Hull fans in the away end where optimistic on there chances of staying up in the Premier League, But with Steve Gohouri's last grasp equaliser in the 90th minute meant that Hull would be going down, At some point I was in tears laughing because they did that cringe-worthy chant - "Getting Mauled by the tigers" .

Within the last few minutes to go, The stewards stopped the Hull fans by going on the pitch by forming a line - But forgot about the home support, Quite a few ran on with people booing them from the stands ( Cant see why, Bit of end of season fun!) they came off the pitch and there is talk of getting people banned and somebody I know has been taken off the Latics database for 3 years because off it.Pathetic.

Eagle and Child 15th annual beer festival

Went to the beer festival at the Eagle and Child pub, In Bispham Green which is a lovely country pub - Although last night it was heaving around 200-500 people where there and it was a good night, The beer festival was in a marquee and had around 50 beers on, You paid £10 to get in which gave you a Pint Glass a booklet and 6.50 worth of tokens. The Ale I supped was fantastic and some had some really interesting flavours.

Sam Smiths Strawberry beer
Southport Brewery's - Sandgrounder 3.8%
Bank Top - Flat Cap 4.0%
Conwy Welsh Pride 4.0% - Rich Malt orangy feel, Copper Colour
North Yorkshire Fools Gold 4.6% - Refreshing Complex Bitter - Looked more like a porter than a bitter.
Tripple FFF - Alton Pride 3.8% - Clean Tasting, Session Beer

And to finish off had Orkney's Skull-splitter which was 8.5% Strong Fruity intense bitter which finished me off!
